brachycarpum ssp. tigerstedii X forestii. Low growing densely branched hybrid from Finland.  Spreading plant is covered with bright red flowers. Bud hardy to  -29 F, worth a try in our colder areas. Also a worthy parent for breeding hardy, low growing reds.

One of the best foliage plants available, Great indumentum on a compact plant with pink flowers. Foliage is a sparkling silver from June till December.  H2 hardiness, 

a must for every garden.

Red - violet flowers on a 5' with dense habit.  New foliage has indumentum ageing to dark green. This plant is bud and plant hardy to -29 F.  This plant along with Elvira are worth a try in out coldest areas.

Orange rose colored flowers accented with a red blotch.   Grows to 5' in 10 years.  This plant is rated to be H1 hardy. Maybe better than Hindustan, but not sure.

This plant has huge leaves and can grow quite large. The flowers are pink with many florets in each truss. John Weagle saw it for the first time last spring in Alex an Anna Muntz's garden and was impressed with the foliage and extremely large trusses.  This is the last offering from out supplier, so if you do not have it order it this year.

A very late bloomer. Has very impressive foliage with vivid pink flowers. The new stems have a redish tinge, adding winter color to your garden. Hardy to -15 F.

A parent of Summer Glow.  Leaves are long and dark green, an impressive plant with white flowers. H1 hardy and blooms very late.  This is the last offering of this plant.

 

April Mist

Another hardy lepidote from Melquist. You may have seen this plant was in our spring show. A very impressive plant with soft pink flowers. The leaves turn reddish bronze in the fall.

 

 

 

COMPANION PLANTS

 

Aruncus asthuisifolius

H2

Common name 'Goatsbeard'. This is a low form from Korea. Has white spiky flowers,  blooms in late spring.  Foliage is finely cut. Great for a shady location.

 

Daphne burkwoodii 'Carol Mackie'

H1

Clusters of very fragrant light pink flowers. Blooms mid spring. Exceptional green foliage with gold edge. Well worth growing just for the foliage and the form.

 

Enkianthus campanulatus 'Red Bells'

Interesting shrub or small tree. Brilliant  red fall foliage. The pink bell shaped flowers have red stripes making an attractive display. Those that went to the Annual meeting at the Clark's may remember seeing it in bloom.

 

Pieris Sarabonde

A low growing yak form of p. japonicia. Has white flowers on a compact plant. More vigorous that the others in this series (Prelude, Cavitine & Nocturne.

 

Hosta Frosted Jade

Frosted Jade is a large plant with large frosty green leaves with a white edge.

Of all the green, white edged Hostas,  Frosted Jade and Francee are my favourites.  I highly recommend this one.

 

Hosta Love Pat

I personally do not have this one YET. But it is on my want list. It is a medium grower, with blue green cupped shaped puckered leaves.  Not as blue as Halcyon but a great plant for the garden.

 

Hosta So Sweet

This one I have not seen, but is recommended in various books. In fact it will the American Hosta Society's 1996 plant of the year. It has fragrant white flowers, polished green leaves with a white edge.

 

Hosta ventricosa Aureo-marginata

This Hosta is difficult to obtain, I tried several years before I obtained one. The leaves are dark green with wavy edges and white irregular margins. This Hosta is highly recommended.

 

Schizophragma h. 'Moonlight'

A superb climber with spectacular large silvery-grey leaves. Large 9" white flowers. Fall foliage color is orange.

 

Stewartia pseudocamelia

This is a small tree with nice form and branching. In the winter the bark grey-red bark peels in pleasing patterns.  Has waxy white camellia-like flowers with yellow centers. Prefers semi-shade in woodland like conditions, great with Rhododendrons.
